About

IFC and BASA have joined forces to strengthen climate risk assessment, mitigation, and adaptation practices of financial institutions in South Africa and to promote investment in green and climate-friendly sectors and businesses. This collaboration, under the IFC-World Bank 30by30 Zero Program, aims to help South Africa achieve its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement and the country’s National Development Plan.

The 30by30 Zero Program, funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and led by IFC in collaboration with the World Bank, is providing advisory support up to 2027 to help strengthen the development of the financial sector in South Africa to increase climate-focused investment, reduce the exposure of financial institutions and investors to carbon-intensive assets and activities, and support innovation in sustainability bond issuances that address climate-related themes.
